Art Nouveau Butterfly Pin Sterling Marcasite Brooch 1940s Jewelry $95

This beautiful Art Nouveau vintage butterfly brooch is very unique.

The butterfly is an open work design with long curling lower wings, like swallowtail butterflies. The brooch is made of sterling silver and is signed 925. The body is pierced and beaded and embellished with small faceted marcasites all over the wings.

This butterfly looks antique because it was made from an antique mold using the lost wax casting method. It was made during the Art Nouveau Revival period of the 1940s. An examination of the back of the brooch shows an old, wide, sterling C-clasp and an old style lever/pin tube hinge. You can also see the fine detail in the sterling mold work from the lost wax casting method.

Medium in size, the butterfly is 1 1/2" tall x 1 1/2" wide or 38 mm x 38 mm. The entire pin is in pristine clean condition with no imperfections or flaws. All of the Marcasites are original and present with no chips or facet wear. There sterling has no dings or scratches front or back. The safety clasp is in perfect working order.
