Japanese Vintage Metal Enamel Cannister Tea or Spice Tin 1950s $45

Japanese Vintage Metal Enamel Cannister Tea or Spice Tin 1950s $45

Made in the 1940-1950 era, this large Japanese tea or spice canister is an incredible work of enamel ware art.

The canister is made of silver metal and painted with glossy black enamel. The large motif on the ront incorporates the Mt. Fuji theme with sailboats, cranes, and a large mimosa tree with leaves. The colors are gold, silver, and accents of orange on the cranes. The tree has lie like bark texture in relief and recessed in the tree and the rocks below Mt. Fuji are Abalone shell inlays.

Large in size, the tin is 5 3/4" tall x 4 1/2" wide or 14.6 cm x 11.4 cm.

I've had this tin stored away fro several decades and it is excellent condition for age. The inside is clean with no rust or stains and no residual smells as nothing has ever been kept inside. The art work is in excellent condition with no missing enamels or signs of wear. The black enamel is also in excellent condition with no major imperfections like scratches or loss of enamel or glass. There are some light signs of wear on the lid, and moderates signs of wear on the bottom from gentle handling over the past 60-70 years. There is one tiny ding, hardly worth noting. The bottom of the tin is stamped Made in Japan in red ink.
